Wednesday 18th March

This morning, we took part in an eco-workshop all about food and trees run by our visitor, Mr Hunton. Everyone got to make their own seed pot using scrap paper and plant a broad bean, which will be coming home today. My Hunton demonstrated how to make a wallet out of a juice carton and showed us many different examples of projects he has created from recylced materials along with his website (greenupyouract.co.uk).

Thursday 27th February

This afternoon, as part of our RE curriculum, Year 6 have been visited by a Humanist to talk to the children about their beliefs. They listened to him speak then had the opportunity to ask him questions.

Tuesday 11th February

As today is "Safer Internet Day", we used our computing lesson to complete a class quiz about online safety, followed by a discussion about the subjects and issues raised in the quiz. Alongside other subjects, 6RS mostly discussed social media and the importance of using the privacy settings to help stay safe online. We also talked about keeping personal information to ourselves and not sharing details with others. All children are encouraged to enter the poster competition, which should be handed in before Friday 14th Feb, creating a poster about what we could do to make the internet a better and safer place. A template for this has been attached below.

Monday 10th February

This afternoon, we finished off our science topic ‘living things and their habitats’ with a field study. Using a map of the school grounds, we explored the local habitat, looking for living things (animals and plants) and noting down their locations. It was very interesting to find a wide range of plants and animals, particularly some flowering plants and new shoots, which tells us that it will soon be Spring. Well done Year 6.

Friday 7th February

To round off our Children's Mental Health Week, Year 6 ended the day with a Yoga session. The children practised lying still, breathing and moving through a variety of yoga poses and positions.  The children tried each position and put a huge amount of effort into this. Well done.

Wednesday 5th February

As part of Children's Mental Health Week, this afternoon our class have taken the time to participate in 40 minutes of mindfulness colouring.  This help's the children focus on the here-and-now, and give them an opportunity to focus on a relaxing activity.  During their PE lessons this afternoon, Mr Spinola has also discussed the importance of mental health and well-being and how doing exercise can have a positive impact on this.

Friday 17th January

Today the Year 6 and 3 children had their first ‘Reading Buddies’ session. It was very successful and all the children both enjoyed the time and worked well with each other. We look forward to seeing these relationships developed as we continue to do this each Friday.

This afternoon the children have worked on art projects to demonstrate the Battle of Britain during WW2. They learnt about what the battle was, how it was fought and how it was won. We looked at how a different outcome would have affected both the skyline and our country. Having discussed this and looked at some images, the children created their own skyline shilouette artwork.

Monday 16th December

Wednesday 12th December

This afternoon our year 6 children show-cased what they have been learning about this half term. Our topic was North America, with the children forming groups to research about one of the 23 North American countries.  This afternoon was the culmination of all their hard work - The Holiday Show. Thank you to all the families who supported the children, enabling them to bring in a range of edible goods!

Tuesday 26th November

This afternoon 35 of our year six children travelled to Sale Grammar to take part in a gases workshop, looking at how to identify and test for Carbon dioxide, Oxygen and Hydrogen. It was great to see them using lots of scientific equipment and asking fantastic questions.

The children who remained in school were also treated to a science investigation exploring static electricity using household objects, which again they thoroughly enjoyed!

Welcome to 6RS

Welcome to 6RS' class page.

Here we will update you on the different events and activities which our class will be doing throughout the year. We look forward to guiding the children through their final year of Stamford Park Junior School and seeing them make more treasured memories.  Should you need to speak to us, please do not hesitate to get in touch (we are both here on a Wednesday; Mrs Rodgers Monday to Wednesday & Mrs Southworth Wednesday to Friday).

Friday 1st November

Today the children came in their Pj’s with donations of money, toys, books etc. for Children’s Adventure Farm Trust. Thank you for your generosity, I know the charity and children will be very grateful! I think they would come in these clothes every day if they could!

Wednesday 30th October

Today, we have enjoyed a whole school Music Day, which was focused on celebrating Black History Month UK. As well as a range of classroom activities, we enjoyed a music workshop in the hall with the visiting choir ‘Gospel Touch’. The day started with an assembly and performance from Gospel Touch, which was incredible. We then watched videos and read information texts about people such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole and many more, thinking about how they may have felt, how they changed history and why we should remember them. In the afternoon, we looked at black musicians and listened to some of their work.

We hope you all have a great half term and come back feeling refreshed and ready for the next half term. See you back in school on Monday 28th October.

Thursday 17th October

Today the children took part in the 1st STEAM day of the year. The topic was ‘Global Goals’ and had a focus of up-cycling items of platstic which are difficult to recycle. Earlier in the week the children designed and planned their item, thinking about how the could repurpose the non-recyclable.

This afternoon, Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a Lego Robotics workshop. The children work together as a group to build their robot, programming it to avoid obstacles. The feedback from the company was fanstastic, commenting on how intelligent, polite and well-behaved the class were. Well done 6RS!

Tuesday 10th September

Today in science, we started our topic on light. Year 6 used lengths of wool and themselves to demonstrate how light travels and how we see things.
