So far this half term 6MS have been very busy. Alongside other work, the children have embarked on our new topic of the 'Battle Of Britain'. So far we have discussed the event and investigated what caused the war, how people will have felt and how London's skyline will have changed.
Here are some fantastic examples of their artwork to show what London might have looked like during the 'Bltiz'.
Wednesday 12th December
Thank you to all who managed to make it to our Year 6 Holiday Show and also who helped the children with their amazing stalls. Our topic was North America, with the children forming groups to research about one of the 23 North American countries. This afternoon was the culmination of all their hard work. It was a real success and the children loved presenting what they knew about their chosen country.
This afternoon 35 of our year six children travelled to Sale Grammar to take part in a gases workshop, looking at how to identify and test for Carbon dioxide, Oxygen and Hydrogen. It was great to see them using lots of scientific equipment and asking fantastic questions.
The children who remained in school were also treated to a science investigation exploring static electricity using household objects, which again they thoroughly enjoyed!
As part of anti-bullying week, the children of year 6 have taken part in a fab drama workshop. They have looked at the issues surrounding cyber-bullying and social media and created their own drama performance to explain what they have learnt!
Today is the start of our Anti-Bullying week. The children took part in an assembly focusing on our idea of “Change starts with us”. They also highlighted how different we all are and how this should be celebrated by wearing odd socks!
Today 6MS took part in our whole school Music Day, which the children thoroughly enjoyed! The focus was on celebrating Black History Month UK as the children learnt about many famous people such as Martin Luther King, Mary Seacole and Rosa Parks. We looked at video and discussed why these people have been so influential and why it is important to remember people from all backgrounds and cultures. The children then listened to a range of music and took part in an exciting workshop with ‘Gospel Touch’, a choir who taught the children a few songs which we later performed to some of our parents!
Today Year 6 headed down to St Peter’s Church in Hale to take part in a school wide celebration of Harvest with volunteers from the Parish. It was a brilliant day and the children were a credit to the school. We tried sewing, grinding grain, pressing apples and even made mice out of dough! A huge thank you to the volunteers of the church for such a great day.
Today 6MS have been investigating colour theory and how light can be refracted into the colour spectrum. We explored the work of Sir Isaac Newton by making colour wheels to combine various colours to see what colour is pure light.
Today we have been using our computing knowledge to understand algorithms, how they can help us and where we see them in the real world. We have then begun the process of designing an app that helps us with a problem children may face. I can’t wait to see what ideas we come up with!
6MS have taken part in a fantastic Lego Robotics workshop this afternoon. We used lego and coding software to create algorithms to make our robot follow commands. We even used more advanced concepts such as conditional statements to create more complex commands for our robots!
Today 6MS began our science topic of Light, discussing what it is and how it travels. The children then had a go at using wool to create human models of how light travels, with one child acting as a light source!
Here you will find all the information needed regarding 6MS. Should you need anything please don't hesitate to contact.
I look forward to a great year with the class and can't wait for the trips, presentations and events we have planned. The children have started the year brilliantly and are already hard at work producing some excellent work around our topic of Mountains!
