Thursday 7th November - Author visit
Amy Danielle is the author and illustrator of the book ‘Stanley the Skeleton’. She came into school today to tell us about how she writes stories and where she gets her inspiration from. We then had the opportunity to write our own stories in our teams.
Monday 4th November - Stardome
Today we got the opportunity to learn more about the stars. An astronomer came into school to teach us the names of some of the stars and to tell us stories using the stars as inspiration. Here is a picture of us outside the stardome. Inside was too dark!
Wednesday 30th October - Black History Month
Today we had a visit from ‘Gospel Touch Choir’ and learnt about inspirational black British people who have done amazing things in history. The day started with an assembly where the choir sang for us, we then watched videos and read information texts about people such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole and many more. We thought about how they may have felt, how they changed history and why we should remember them. In the afternoon, we looked at black musicians and listened to some of their work. We thought about the message they were trying to portray, the instruments they used and what we liked about the music.
Here are some pictures of our workshop.
Friday 18th October - STEAM project
Our topic this half term is the rainforest. To bring our topic to an end we have done a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) project. We started by researching endangered animals, thinking about what dangers they face and then designing and creating a habitat which would protect them. Here are some photos of us creating them.

In this lesson we focussed on recognising similarities and differences in our class and working together as a team. For one of the activities we worked in teams to choose 9 words which describe good team work. We then ordered them from most important to least important using a diamond formation. Below is our ideas.

Today the children were learning about negative numbers. They then worked in pairs to complete a challenge and apply their new found knowledge. Here are some photos of them working hard.
Thursday 19th September - Identifying and labelling invertebrates
This half term our science topic is ‘Animals including humans’. We have been looking at different ways you can sort animals, what types of animals there are and how you can use a classification key to identify animals. Today we focussed on invertebrates. We searched for them around school and drew the ones we found. Here are some pictures of our search.
The Year Four classes will be delivering an assembly which focusses on what a harvest festival is and why we celebrate the harvest. During this assembly we will be singing three songs. It would be really helpful if you could practise these with your child.
The songs are:
Food Glorious Food
I have attached links to Youtube videos which you could use. These include the lyrics.
