21.9.18 - Homework Year 5

English - poetry

This week we have been looking at a range of poetry that uses figurative language.

These are just some of the things your child should be able to talk about:

Metaphor - e.g. Heart of stone.

Personification - e.g. The leaves danced on the trees

Onomatopoeia - e.g. Crash! Splash! Boom!

Alliteration- e.g. Evil eagles eat eels

Simile - e.g. Busy as a bee

Idiom - e.g. time flies

Hyperbole - e.g. For the millionth time, be quiet!

How about you develop some of your own as a family? If you think of any good ones bring them into to school. That would be AWEsome .
