Welcome to Class 4LH
Wednesday 21st June
What a super way to start the day. Year 4 took part in a Lego workshop with the aim to build their own town. There were so many creative designs I couldn't photograph them all in time. Here are a few highlights of the morning. The classes worked fantastically well together and their team working skills were superb.

Shakespeare Character Collages
Today, we have created characters from Twelfth Night using newspaper to create the design and texture.

Arts Week - Pop Art
As part of Arts Week, each teacher took a theme and had a mixed year 3,4,5 and 6 Class.
My theme was Pop Art and my group were lucky enough to have a workshop run by a local artist. The class made Pop Art cubes, some of which you can see below. We also drew pictures inspired by Roy Lichtenstein and used recycled food containers to design our own Pop Art labels.
Friday 19th May
This week has been a change from our typical week. 4LH have spent the entire week doing different art activities. We have made clay pot monsters, designed our own prints and created stained glass windows. It's been a fantastic week and there are many superb pieces of work on display.

Tuesday 16th May
As part of Art's Week 4LH took part in a dance work shop. It was great fun and the children attempted new jumps and holds such as a nugget jump, hip stand and chin lift. They did a super a job.

Thumb Pot Monsters
Step two of creating our thumb pot monsters was to mould the body and create the body parts. There were some superb designs and the monsters are really starting to take shape.

Day 1 - Art Week
Clay monster tumb pots & printing
Today, 4LH spent the morning designing their ideas for a clay thumb pot monster. We came up with some very scary designs, here are just a few of our frightening ideas.
We also spent a lesson looking at printing and creating designs for our tiles, ready to print tomorrow.
Friday 12th May
RE Visit - Judaism
As part of our RE studies, we were visited by Jeremy who came to talk to us about the different celebrations in the Jewish religion. We learned about the Bar and Bat Mitzvah and the meaning behind the celebrations, as well as how a Jewish wedding ceremony is carried out. Jeremy brought lots of items for the children to look at and try on. The children asked lots of interesting questions and learned many new facts about the religion. Thank you to Jeremy for coming to speak to us today.

Oliver Twist freeze frames
4LH have begun to read Oliver Twist as part of our study of historical texts. Today, we used freeze frames to recap the story so far, including one of the most famous scenes from the book and film. Can you guess what is happening in each picture?
Book Fair Job Descriptions
Thursday 27th April
Today, 4LH begin their program of clarinet lessons with Trafford Music Service. We were all very excited and learned how to put the clarinet together and make a noise. By the end of the program there will be a concert to show off our new found skills which parents will be invited to attend.
Friday 31st March
What an exciting morning! 4LH have designed some super egg mobiles this year and have really focused on using lots of recycled material. We had a few egg mobiles that travelled a long way but well done to Isaac, his egg mobile ended up travelling the entire length of the track.
Thursday 30th March
As part of Earth Hour this year, we have been looking at climate change. The children have looked at some fascinating facts during our problem lesson and carried out a superb debate on the pros and cons of global warming. Well done 4LH!
Wednesday 29th March
During our topic lessons, 4LH have been looking at the features of Viking Longhouses. We found out that Vikings were very clever and found ingenious ways to keep warm in the winter. The children were challenged to write an advert trying to sell a Longhouse using persuasive language. Here are some examples, would you buy a Longhouse after reading these adverts?

Happy World Book Day
Teachers were wowed by the fantastic costumes seen in school today, so much effort and time had been put in.

The Digestive System
Today, the children explored the digestive system by creating their own. It was very messy but great fun. Can you spot the different processes involved in digestion?
Friday 24th February
Today, the school were treated to an enthralling visit by Jason Beresford, author of The Fabulous Four Fish Fingers. Each class took part in a workshop with Jason and had the opportunity to invent their own superhero. We had some very inventive ideas and the children enjoyed acting out their characters in the hall. See if you guess which animal superhero they were trying to be.
Monday 20th February
Egyptian Art Day
What an exciting day! 4LH have been busy making Tutankhamen death masks, Egyptian jewellery, preparing an Egyptian portrait and mummfiying each other. What a super start to the new half term!
Wednesday 1st February
4LH have been lucky enough to have a 6 week taster of Yoga with Mrs Elton. The children have really enjoyed their sessions and have learned a lot about the history of Yoga as well as why it is good for their bodies.
Tuesday 31st January
What a super afternoon! 4LH have been experimenting with circuits and how to make bulbs brighter and dimmer. The children were able to plan and carry out their own investigation which saw the construction of lots of magnificent circuits. We discovered that the more cells in a circuit the brighter a bulb would become.
Tuesday 10th January
PDSA Visit - Pet Day
Today was a lovely day, with lots of the children dressed up as different animals along with their favourite animal teddy from home. The children took part in a PDSA workshop, where they learned how to care for different pets. The children really enjoyed the input and it made for an interesting day, teaching lots of different animals Maths and English.

Christmas Round Up
Here is a selection of all the Christmas activities 4LH have been up to over the last week. We have had a fantastic time designing and sewing our own Christmas stocking, making crispy cakes to sell at the Christmas Fair and making our own Christmas cards.
Wednesday 23rd November
Cadbury World Trip
Cadbury World was our destination today. We were all very excited.
Firstly, the children were treated to a talk on the Mayans and their way of life. We learned that they played an early form of basket ball, accurately calculated 365 days in a year and discovered the concept of zero as well as harvesting cocoa beans. Next, we went on the exciting 4D ride that took us on a journey through the different chocolate bars developed by Cadburys. Finally, we walked around the museum and the factory. Here we discovered lots of facts about the Cadbury family and how chocolate is made. The last stop was the chocolate shop and most children took away plenty of samples.
The children behaved beautifully throughout the trip and we all had a fantastic time.
Friday 18th November
This week 4LH have spent time discussing the effects of bullying and what to do if it is happening to you. The children took part in a drama activity where they took on the role of bully or victim, and we explored the feelings attached with being bullied. As you can see from the pictures the children reflected the emotions in their drama very well.
Wednesday 16th November
We've had a very exciting afternoon today, tasting different types of chocolate. The children had 4 different types of chocolate and they had to assess the taste, appearance, texture and smell of dark, milk, white and crunchy chocolate.
At the end of the lesson we had a class vote and Crunchy was the outright winner, with milk chocolate getting 0 votes.

Wednesday 9th November
Schoolastic Business School
The children have the exciting opportunity to apply to be part of the Schoolastic Business School. Every year the book fair comes to school and is normally run by school staff and the PTA, however this year the children have the opportunity to experience running the fair for themselves. Mrs Rogers has spoken to the class today about the application process and how to apply. You will find below example covering letters, CVs and the job information sheets. Good luck!

Solids, liquids and gases
Today, the children investigated the structures of solids, liquids and gases. They then took on the role of being a particle themselves. Can you guess which picture is a solid, liquid and a gas?
Friday 21st October
What better way to celebrate the end of a half term than with a fruit mocktail and a tropical fruit kebab? Year 4 invited friends and family to The Rainforest Cafe to enjoy a variety of homemade delights, all served sporting some fabulous animal masks. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed ingredients in order to make this a wonderful afternoon.
Tuesday 18th October
Maths - Measurement
In maths this week, the children have been looking at measuring length accurately. We looked at the different units of length and how to use a ruler accurately. This resulted in the final day spent measuring each other.
Friday 14th October 2016
Today, the children put on a fantastic Harvest assembly for their parents. We decided that it would be a great idea to have a Harvest Fashion Show, to show off all the super vegetables and fruits. The children did a fantastic job and the singing was beautiful. Well done!
Wednesday 5th October
The class were treated to a poetry workshop today, by visiting poet Ian Bland. Ian gave a fantastic assembly, performing his poetry for the school, before Year 4 were introduced to Puzzle Poems. Here is our year group example. Do you know what it is?
Tuesday 4th October
Today the class have been creating fraction museums. They were challenged to show lots of different fraction amounts using different materials and equipment. The classes then got to swap over and visit each others museums. What do you think?
Tuesday 27th September 2016
This week,4LH were unable to have their hockey lesson due to the terrible weather, however they were treated to a gymnastics lesson with Mr Taylor. The focus was on how to roll with precision and many of the children demonstrated the rolls beautifully. Mr Taylor introduced the children to Teddy Bear rolls and Standing rolls, as well as his famous Ninja roll.
4LH have got off to a super start this year and have been working very hard. We have been looking at Information Texts in English, focusing on the Rainforest. Hopefully, we will have lots of greats texts to show you soon.
We have also been on a bug hunt this week. The children really enjoyed searching for and drawing the invertebrates they found. We never knew there were so many different invertebrates sharing our school.
