On a Tuesday afternoon, we will have our flute lessons. Please ensure children practice at home and bring their flutes into school on a Tuesday

Thank you.

Update! Look at the damage caused to these eggs! A valuable lesson to learn if we want to keep our pearly white teeth!

Picture 1

Friday 22nd March

We have been looking at teeth again this week. Today we’ve been looking at tooth decay and its causes. We used eggs as teeth due to their similarities in make up. We will leave them submerged in different drinks with various amounts of sugar and will see what happens to them next week!

The sun shone brightly on our trip today! We, the Vikings, invaded the old hall at Tatton Park and learnt all about Viking history. We made shield walls, made bracelets and bread and learnt alll about the deer. We learnt how leather is made and how the Vikings used everything single part of the deer they hunted.

Friday 8th February

This afternoon we have been doing more gymnastics. We have been practising our jumping skills but have also been learning to keep our balance on a thin beam. It’s not as easy as we make it look here!

Thursday 7th February

Today we have been learning about Egyptian writing and Heiroglyphics. The Egyptians used to carve into stone, but were also one of the first civilisations to make and use their own paper and ink. The paper was made papyrus reeds woven together while the ink was a mixture of soot, vegetable gum and bees wax.

Today we practised writing Egyptian heiroglyphics by creating a cartouche - a special piece of writing within an oval shape which signifies that the name inside is of a special person like a pharaoh. First, we used tea to stain the paper to make it look old. We ruffled it up and ripped the edges for an authentic, ancient artefact look. Then we drew heiroglyphics in charcoal.

Thursday 31st January

Another afternoon of excitement! This time we’ve been learning about the process of mummification and mummifying oranges.

We scoop out the innards of the orange, just as the Egyptians would have done with the organs of the body and filled it with a mixture of salt and bicarbonate soda which the Egyptians called natron. We added some cinnamon which is similar to the scented oils they used before we bandaged it all up.

the Egyptian mummification process took around 70 days, but we will see what has happened to our oranges in a week!

The snow may have ground Manchester to a halt, but it couldn’t stop our curiosity! We’ve been making our own switches today out of all sorts of materials!

Monday 28th January

This week we are looking at fractions. We used lots of everyday items in our classroom to create a fraction museum. Can you work out any of our mystery fractions?

Friday 25th January

Its been an incredibly busy week in 4TW and we have ended by blowing off steam with gymnastics.

We have learnt a variety of jumps and practised safe take offs and landings using equipment to help us get height!

We’ve donned our art shirts this afternoon and made silhouettes of the Egyptian pyramids.

First, we drew a draft in our art books and thought about the colours we would use for our background. Next, we painted our backgrounds in sunset colours before we cut out silhouette shapes from black card.

Thursday 6th December

In science we have been learning about how materials can change state and what causes the change. What better way to see that than by melting chocolate to make rice crispy cakes!

Friday 30th November

This week we have been looking at perimeter. Today we were challenged to create a rectangle with a given perimeter. We had to work out what length our sides would be and the. Measured this out on our desks using masking tape. We then challenged our friends to measure and work out the shapes we had made!

Thursday 29th November

Today we were so lucky to have been invited to try out a brand new bowling centre in Broadheath. It was amazing! We were even lucky enough to test out the VIP lanes. Year 4 were chosen to visit as we are the year group who have reached the top of the AWEsome ladder the most times. A great day and a well deserved treat for all of our hard work!

Today was fantastic! We’d been looking forward to this trip for weeks! After a long journey to York, we first had a workshop and learnt about how chocolate was first processed by the Mayans as a very bitter drink. We were very excited to try it, but weren’t expecting such a bitterness! After lunch, we had a tour of a chocolate museum, eating lots of chocolates and learning about how it is made. What a day!

Monday 26th November

With Christmas around the corner, year 4 walked up to a local church for Rewind to Christmas. We looked at the Christmas story, did a few activities and made a tea light which we could light on Christmas Day!

Its yoga time! Every Friday we have been doing yoga. We have learnt about all of the different muscle groups and are working on building our strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.

We are also focusing on Happy Breathing to connect our mind, body and soul. At the end of each session, we do relaxation, where Mr Whitehead reads us a mindfulness script and we lie with our eyes close and let the week’s tensions drift away. The whole class were absolutely silent throughout! A great thing  to continue practicing at home for a calm and peaceful life!

Namaste!

Thursday 15th November

Today we have been learning about evaporation and condensation through a variety of experiments!

As part of anti-bullying week, we have been looking in depth at the impacts of bullying, how it makes people feel and possible resolutions focused on respect.

Today we started planning short films, in which we aimed to show how being respectful can help people being bullied. We planned the film and wrote a script ready to film tomorrow!

Picture 1

Monday 12th November

Today is the first day of Anti Bullying week. In 4TW, we spent a lot of time discussing respect this afternoon and what it feels like to be respectful and feel respected.

At Stamford Park Juniors we are all different. Difference is something to be celebrated so we’ve all got odd socks on, even Mr Whitehead!

We were also lucky enough to take part in a virtual reality workshop where we saw scenes of bullying and reflected on the underlying causes and issues and learnt about the best ways to deal with bullying.

Thursday 8th November

This week we have been looking at persuasive language and have designed our own adverts which we are animating them on Yakit!

Thursday 1st November

Today we started our new science topic, States of Matter. We had a tray full of different materials and we had to work out which were solid, liquid or gas. After this, we learnt about how the particles are arranged in the three states of matter and spent some time in the playground making videos of ourselves demonstrating how the particles are arranged.

Wednesday 17th October

Today was a very exciting day as we had our Rainfirest Cafe!

We all made masks, fruit mocktails and fruit kebabs! Our adults were invited to comour and sample our rainforest treats and see what we have been up to this term.

Thank you to everybody who came to the rainforest cafe and everybody who helped the children prepare their ingredients.

Tuesday 16th October

Today has been an extremely busy day!

We started our day with our My Happy Mind session, focusing on our Happy Breathing to maintain our mental health, improve our concentration and problem solving skills.

Picture 1
We then made maths dictionaries in order to ensure that we understand what we are being asked to do. Word problems can be very confusing!
Picture 1

This afternoon we have been presenting our toy prototypes. Over the course of the term, we designed toys in scratch, fit for a certain audience with at least one input and one output.

We were all very brave. It takes a lot to stand up in front of the whole class!

Today we have been back in the playground searching for invertebrates! We used pooters to collect our invertebrates and were extremely careful not to harm them. We brought our critters into the classroom and drew scientific drawings of them, looking out for what characterises an invertebrates.

Tuesday 25th September

After a week of planning, we have been building prototype situations for toys we have designed. Our toys must have an input and an output and be suitable for children.

Monday 24th September

Today we have been playing Top TRaMPs! We use TRaMP to help us remember how adverbs can be used to describe a verb. They can describe the Time something takes place, a Reason something occurs, the Manner in which something happens or the Place something happens.

We made TRaMP dice, rolled them twice and then added two adverbs to some boring sentences to jazz them up!

Picture 1

Wednesday 19th September

Today, we were lucky to have some bright sun after the heavy rain and so we got out into the playground to find invertebrates. We used a classification key to identify the invertebrates and we were very careful not to disturb them!

Tuesday 18th September 2018

Today we have been playing a board game in maths to help us understand and practice negative numbers.
