On this page you will find updates, pictures and information about what we are doing throughout the year.
Note for adults: During the spring term, PE will normally take place on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. However, occasionally our timetable will change so please ensure children have kits with them all week.
Thursday 28th March
It’s egg mobile day! Today we are researching space vehicles to incorporate into our designs which we will start making tomorrow!
Thursday 28th March
Today we were lucky enough to go to the Narnia Experience at a local church and it was fantastic! The church was transformed and we were immersed in the world of Narnia!
Friday 29th March
Update! Look at the damage caused to these eggs! A valuable lesson to learn if we want to keep our pearly white teeth!
Friday 22nd March
We have been looking at teeth again this week. Today we’ve been looking at tooth decay and its causes. We used eggs as teeth due to their similarities in make up. We will leave them submerged in different drinks with various amounts of sugar and will see what happens to them next week!
Thursday 21st March
Today we have been building and decorating our Egyptian dioramas. We will continue this over the next couple of weeks!
Monday 18th March
This term in computing, we have been looking at electronic music production. We have looked at building drums, melodies and changing the arrangements to make our music interesting!
Who knows, we may have the big thing sitting amongst us!
Friday 15th March
Today we have been looking at teeth. We spent time researching the teeth of various herbivores, carnivores and omnivores before making models of their teeth!
Thursday 14th March
Today is the school’s world book day! We have done lots of activities in different classes and our costumes were absolutely fantastic!
Thank you to all our adults who helped us out with our costumes!
Wednesday 13th March
Today we have been designing Viking Longships. We will be making working ships which will float and will hopefully sail with a small amount of wind power applied!
Thursday 28th February
We have worked hard on our Egyptian PowerPoints and today had the opportunity to present them to the class!
Tuesday 26th February
The sun shone brightly on our trip today! We, the Vikings, invaded the old hall at Tatton Park and learnt all about Viking history. We made shield walls, made bracelets and bread and learnt alll about the deer. We learnt how leather is made and how the Vikings used everything single part of the deer they hunted.
Friday 8th February
This afternoon we have been doing more gymnastics. We have been practising our jumping skills but have also been learning to keep our balance on a thin beam. It’s not as easy as we make it look here!
Thursday 7th February
Today we have been learning about Egyptian writing and Heiroglyphics. The Egyptians used to carve into stone, but were also one of the first civilisations to make and use their own paper and ink. The paper was made papyrus reeds woven together while the ink was a mixture of soot, vegetable gum and bees wax.
Today we practised writing Egyptian heiroglyphics by creating a cartouche - a special piece of writing within an oval shape which signifies that the name inside is of a special person like a pharaoh. First, we used tea to stain the paper to make it look old. We ruffled it up and ripped the edges for an authentic, ancient artefact look. Then we drew heiroglyphics in charcoal.
Wednesday 6th February
This afternoon we have been investigating circuitry again. We designed our own experiments to test what affects the brightness of a bulb. We then photographed our experiments before uploading them onto Seesaw with a voice recording of our findings.
Tuesday 5th February
This morning we have been very lucky to have had a creative writing workshop. We have been letting our creative juices flow and have written amazing horror stories.
Friday 1st February
Today we have been learning about equivalent fractions and used strips of paper to make a fraction wall to help us visualise the similarities and differences in fractions that are equivalent.
Thursday 31st January
Another afternoon of excitement! This time we’ve been learning about the process of mummification and mummifying oranges.
We scoop out the innards of the orange, just as the Egyptians would have done with the organs of the body and filled it with a mixture of salt and bicarbonate soda which the Egyptians called natron. We added some cinnamon which is similar to the scented oils they used before we bandaged it all up.
the Egyptian mummification process took around 70 days, but we will see what has happened to our oranges in a week!
Wednesday 30th January
The snow may have ground Manchester to a halt, but it couldn’t stop our curiosity! We’ve been making our own switches today out of all sorts of materials!
Monday 28th January
This week we are looking at fractions. We used lots of everyday items in our classroom to create a fraction museum. Can you work out any of our mystery fractions?
Friday 25th January
Its been an incredibly busy week in 4TW and we have ended by blowing off steam with gymnastics.
We have learnt a variety of jumps and practised safe take offs and landings using equipment to help us get height!
Thursday 24th January
We’ve donned our art shirts this afternoon and made silhouettes of the Egyptian pyramids.
First, we drew a draft in our art books and thought about the colours we would use for our background. Next, we painted our backgrounds in sunset colours before we cut out silhouette shapes from black card.
Wednesday 23rd January
We’ve been investigating electricity this afternoon and we discovered that certain materials are conductors and others are insulators.
Tuesday 22nd January
We’re continuing our work on area and have been designing robots! They could be any rectilinear shape so long as they had a specific area. We made sure we kept our robots happy by using rulers!
Monday 21st January
Today we have begun our new maths topic, area. We have been finding the area of various classroom items in cm squares.
Thursday 10th January
Our new Topic is the Egyptians and we will be looking into how the Egyptians have shaped the modern world. Today we have been looking at the Egyptian impact on industry and have made posters all about the pyramids, building and architecture, farming and agriculture, ship building and craftsmanship.
Wednesday 9th January
Today we have started our new science topic, electricity! We were given some circuitry equipment and discovered how to build a working circuit. We were also given picture cards with circuits on them and tested each setup to see if they worked.
Thursday 3rd January
It’s the first day back and we’ve hit the ground running! Our latest maths topic is division and what better introduction than a division board game!
Thursday 20th December
We’ve only got one more day until we break up for the Christmas break so we have been making stockings. Hopefully Santa will fill them with something!
Monday 17th December
Today was the Christmas fair! We worked hard all morning to make reindeer cakes before setting up our stalls. We had a games stall and sold the cakes, our penguin Christmas cards and Ho Ho Hoke of the Week joke booklets which contain all of our favourite Christmas jokes. We managed to raise about £70 in our class! Thank you to all the children who made it happen!
Wednesday 12th December
Next week Monday is our Christmas fair! This afternoon we have been making Christmas cards to sell at the fair. We will also have a stall selling Reindeer cakes, Ho Ho Hoke of the Week booklets and will have a board games stall. It should be super exciting!
Friday 7th December
This week we have been looking at performance poetry. Our poems turned out amazingly, with lots of rhythm and rhyme! This morning we performed our poems in front of the class!
Thursday 6th December
In science we have been learning about how materials can change state and what causes the change. What better way to see that than by melting chocolate to make rice crispy cakes!
Friday 30th November
This week we have been looking at perimeter. Today we were challenged to create a rectangle with a given perimeter. We had to work out what length our sides would be and the. Measured this out on our desks using masking tape. We then challenged our friends to measure and work out the shapes we had made!
Thursday 29th November
Today we were so lucky to have been invited to try out a brand new bowling centre in Broadheath. It was amazing! We were even lucky enough to test out the VIP lanes. Year 4 were chosen to visit as we are the year group who have reached the top of the AWEsome ladder the most times. A great day and a well deserved treat for all of our hard work!
Tuesday 27th November
Today was fantastic! We’d been looking forward to this trip for weeks! After a long journey to York, we first had a workshop and learnt about how chocolate was first processed by the Mayans as a very bitter drink. We were very excited to try it, but weren’t expecting such a bitterness! After lunch, we had a tour of a chocolate museum, eating lots of chocolates and learning about how it is made. What a day!
Monday 26th November
With Christmas around the corner, year 4 walked up to a local church for Rewind to Christmas. We looked at the Christmas story, did a few activities and made a tea light which we could light on Christmas Day!
Friday 23rd November
We've been really challenging ourselves in yoga today! We stretched out our backs and used loads of muscles to get ourselves into these difficult positions!

Today we’ve been looking the water cycle and made our own working models.
Tuesday 20th November
Today we have been doing music! We’ve been learning all about Swedish pop sensations ABBA! We’ve learnt the lyrics to a few of their songs and are no learning to play some simple notes along with the songs.
Monday 19th November
Today we are starting a new maths topic, measurement! We have been looking at length and converting between units!
Friday 16th November
Its yoga time! Every Friday we have been doing yoga. We have learnt about all of the different muscle groups and are working on building our strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.
We are also focusing on Happy Breathing to connect our mind, body and soul. At the end of each session, we do relaxation, where Mr Whitehead reads us a mindfulness script and we lie with our eyes close and let the week’s tensions drift away. The whole class were absolutely silent throughout! A great thing to continue practicing at home for a calm and peaceful life!

Today we have been learning about evaporation and condensation through a variety of experiments!
Wednesday 14th November
Action! Today we perfected our scripts before getting the camera rolling!
Tuesday 13th November
As part of anti-bullying week, we have been looking in depth at the impacts of bullying, how it makes people feel and possible resolutions focused on respect.
Today we started planning short films, in which we aimed to show how being respectful can help people being bullied. We planned the film and wrote a script ready to film tomorrow!
Monday 12th November
Today is the first day of Anti Bullying week. In 4TW, we spent a lot of time discussing respect this afternoon and what it feels like to be respectful and feel respected.
At Stamford Park Juniors we are all different. Difference is something to be celebrated so we’ve all got odd socks on, even Mr Whitehead!
We were also lucky enough to take part in a virtual reality workshop where we saw scenes of bullying and reflected on the underlying causes and issues and learnt about the best ways to deal with bullying.
Thursday 8th November
This week we have been looking at persuasive language and have designed our own adverts which we are animating them on Yakit!
Tuesday 6th November
Christmas is around the corner so this afternoon we have been designing Christmas cards. We worked in groups of four with children from every other year group!
Thursday 1st November
Today we started our new science topic, States of Matter. We had a tray full of different materials and we had to work out which were solid, liquid or gas. After this, we learnt about how the particles are arranged in the three states of matter and spent some time in the playground making videos of ourselves demonstrating how the particles are arranged.
Monday 29th October
This half term we are looking at multiplication and division. We have been using dienes cubes to help us understand factors in multiplication and commutativity!
Thursday 18th October
Today we have been practicing writing amazing sentences. Mr Whitehead was really impressed with the level of detail! There were loads of fronted adverbials, descriptions of sense, expanded noun phrases, similes and metaphors!
Wednesday 17th October
Today was a very exciting day as we had our Rainfirest Cafe!
We all made masks, fruit mocktails and fruit kebabs! Our adults were invited to comour and sample our rainforest treats and see what we have been up to this term.
Thank you to everybody who came to the rainforest cafe and everybody who helped the children prepare their ingredients.
Tuesday 16th October
Today has been an extremely busy day!
We started our day with our My Happy Mind session, focusing on our Happy Breathing to maintain our mental health, improve our concentration and problem solving skills.
This afternoon we have been presenting our toy prototypes. Over the course of the term, we designed toys in scratch, fit for a certain audience with at least one input and one output.
We were all very brave. It takes a lot to stand up in front of the whole class!
Friday 12th October
Today we have gone back to our sketches and have used water colours to paint them. They’ve turned out wonderfully!
Friday 5th October
Today we’ve been doing even more art! We began by looking at Henri Rousseau, a French painter who painted rainforest scenes. We sketched out our own scenes ready to paint next week.
Friday 28th September
This afternoon we have been getting arty in preparation for our Rainforest Cafe. We have all made rainforest animal masks to wear.
Wednesday 26th September
Today we have been back in the playground searching for invertebrates! We used pooters to collect our invertebrates and were extremely careful not to harm them. We brought our critters into the classroom and drew scientific drawings of them, looking out for what characterises an invertebrates.
Tuesday 25th September
After a week of planning, we have been building prototype situations for toys we have designed. Our toys must have an input and an output and be suitable for children.
Monday 24th September
Today we have been playing Top TRaMPs! We use TRaMP to help us remember how adverbs can be used to describe a verb. They can describe the Time something takes place, a Reason something occurs, the Manner in which something happens or the Place something happens.
We made TRaMP dice, rolled them twice and then added two adverbs to some boring sentences to jazz them up!
Wednesday 19th September
Today, we were lucky to have some bright sun after the heavy rain and so we got out into the playground to find invertebrates. We used a classification key to identify the invertebrates and we were very careful not to disturb them!

Today we have been playing a board game in maths to help us understand and practice negative numbers.

Today is Friday and we’ve been getting loose in music, learning to sing Mamma Mia by ABBA and having a good dance!
Wednesday 12th September 2018
Today we have started our new science topic and have been learning about vertebrate and invertebrates. We learnt about the five types of vertebrate and which animals fit into each category. Can you name them all?
Tuesday 11th September
We’re only one week in and we’ve already been working really hard. Today in maths we have looking at ordering and comparing numbers over 1000.
